How to hide unneeded components

Joomla comes with several components that are accessible from the Components menu in Administrator. If you add a lot of extensions to your site, this menu can become cluttered. Or if you are developing a site for a customer who is not using these components, they might get confused. Here is how to hide these components:

1. Login to Administrator and go to Extensions - Install/Uninstall

2. Click the Components link towards the top left

Extension Manager

3. A list of the currently installed components is displayed. You'll notice that only the first few can be uninstalled as the rest are critical to the operation of Joomla. However uninstalling them is a bad idea because you might want to use them at a later time.

4. Find a component that you want to hide and click on the green arrow in the Enabled column

Disable

5. The tick changes to a red X and the component is now hidden from the drop-down menu. You can bring it back by clicking on the red X.

You can use the same technique on components that are grayed out (e.g. 'Search') but tread carefully as you may adversely affect the operation of your website.
