I am having trouble saving articles. The "waiting for website" signal goes around and around and
never seems to complete. When I use the browser tool to "stop loading the page", use the cancel button in Joomla, the article will show up as it should with the exception that the indicator shows the articles to be "open". I hope this is clear, Any ideas on where to start looking?
Thanks

"A few thousand" isn't a lot. Or it shouldn't be with a decent host. It's impossible to tell you the cause, but the following might help.

When you delete an article, it remains in the database, but its status changes to "Trashed". This allows you to recover accidental deletions. You might not be aware of this because items with a Trashed status are not displayed on the Articles page. To view them, you need to CLICK Search Tools then change Select Status to Trashed. You can permanently remove them by CLICKing Empty Trash in the action toolbar.

There should never be any reason for you to mess with the raw database.

Richard--Thanks for the response. I'm glad I don't need to get into the data base. I think I've routinely emptied the trash but maybe I haven't been as diligent as I thought I've been. I consider the issue closed and thanks again for the help.

I looked into this issue a little deeper by looking into this forum and the JOOMLA forum. I began to find references to the number of articles assigned to any one category and the time it took to save any one article. I simply created a new category by slightly rewording the old one. Voila, the articles are saving in a second or two. That begs the question: While there could be a few thousand articles that have been assigned to this category, I routinely delete them after two days. This then sounds like some sort of overhead buildup in the data base. Does Joomla offer a way to clean up the data base that will essentially get rid of all the junk. As you can tell I am far from a Joomla expert and I am totally unprepared to go fiddling around with data bases. Thanks for any help or direction you can give me.
