Joomla Job Boards

Several people have asked me what is available to create job listings on a Joomla site. You can view these at the Joomla Extensions Directory. The latest Job Board release is JA Job Board by JoomlArt. With a starting price of $290, this is one of the more expensive Joomla extensions around. However if you're making money from your job listings, you will quickly recover this investment and end up with a full featured application.

No one is going to contact you if you post here. Have you tried asking for support from the developer?

Joomla Resource Directory

One aspect that was lacking in the Joomla community was an easy way to find people to help you with your Joomla project. The Joomla Resource Directory has now been released with listings such as hosting, support and development. If you are involved in supporting Joomla in any way, you should get yourself listed now.

SuperBlogger

Although Joomla can display articles like a blog, to get full blogging features requires you to install one or more extensions. The new SuperBlogger extension from JoomlaWorks includes many nice blogging features such as comments, social bookmarking and ratings. This is a commercial extension but at just €7 it is a bargain.

JAdmin!

Here's a new extension worth a look, particularly if you manage more than one Joomla site. JAdmin! is a desktop tool that works with Windows or Linux. You can access any part of your Administrator with just one click.

Change your Administrator username

During the Joomla 1.5 installation process, you specify a password but the username is automatically assigned as 'admin'. Most people don't bother changing this which weakens your security as hackers already know half of your login details.

Joomla Surveys

This week I needed to create a simple survey. I could have just created a form but I wanted a better way of displaying the results. I opted for bfSurvey as there was a free version I could try and a commercial version with the features I needed.

Viewing template positions

In the Build a Joomla Website training, you learn how to view your template positions in Administrator. However there are times when it would be handy to be able to do this quickly in the front-end. You do this by adding ?tp=1 to the end of your home page URL.
