How to speed up your Joomla site - part I

It is crucial to provide a positive experience for your site visitors and an easy way to do this is to speed up your site so pages are displayed more quickly. Here's one way to do this:

  1. Login to Administrator as explained in lesson 6 of our free Joomla tutorial and go to Global Configuration
  2. Click on the System link
    Global configuration
  3. Under Cache Settings, select Yes next to Cache
    Cache
  4. Click Save in the top right

Now when someone requests a page, the page contents will be placed into a cache. And the next time someone requests that content, it will be sent from the cache rather than processing it again which saves time and therefore the page is displayed more quickly. Remember though that if you change some content, you will not be able to see that change straight away if that content is in the cache. You can get around this by emptying the cache under the Tools menu - Clean Cache.

I have another speed tip which I will share with you next week.
