Joomla Blog

Tutorials, reviews, case studies and other tips to help website owners and website developers master the Joomla content management system.

Articles

Articles are the main type of content that appear on a Joomla powered website.

An article can include text, images or videos. By changing some settings, you can also include JavaScript and other non-conventional HTML tags.

Articles are managed in Administrator on the Article Manager page, or if the appropriate settings and permissions have been set, they can also be edited and created by logging in to the frontend of the site. Articles are stored in categories in much the same way as you store computer files in folders.

Joomla Article Manager

Articles are what we like to refer to as the Primary Content of a site – that is the main content as opposed to Secondary Content items such as banners, navigations bars etc.

Plugin code

Some Joomla extensions provide the ability to add special code to an article to display content powered by that extension. For example, you may wish to include a form that was created with an extension within an article.

hi, richard! i'm reading a javascript & jquery manual right now, and i've learned how to "call" jquery and then build something called a "fancy box" slide show for a photo gallery. i was hoping i could use this on a joomla website that i built, but your blog above indicates that some sort of "settings" might be necessary in order to be able to add this functionality? would you be able to elaborate on that a little, please? thanks very much!

Adding JavaScript and other certain other tags to a Joomla article is tricky. By default, Joomla strips certain tags to prevent users from entering malicious code into the HTML editor. You can get around this by adjusting some settings in Article Manager - Options - Text Filter as well as the editor that you're using.

Thanks for the "heads-up" on this point, Richard. I appreciate the guidance. I will probably give it a go on a test site I have, and see what happens. Nothing ventured, nothing gained, right? Thanks again!

I wasn't aware that you can include JavaScript and other non-conventional HTML tags in an article. This must be the newest concept in the article writing template. The advantageous part of inputting HTML and JavaScript is that it will give very good backlinks to your website and you can also highlight your website's page.
