Hi Richard
Very useful video, I have upgraded one tset site but have no captcha plug in installed It may be a bug on upgrade.
The info on smart search was really useful I wouldn't have known you'd have to index first. Many thanks for the useful video.

The component and plugin should be there. But you might need to create a new module (Extensions - Module Manager - New - Smart Search Module).

If the upgrade was successful, but you got some database errors during the upgrade, check the jos_menu table in your Joomla database. If you don't see an entry for Smart Search, it's possible that it does exist, but you will need to manually enter the SQL to insert the menu item. It will then show up in your Components menu.

There have been some issues with Smart Search on the upgrade. If you Google the problem, you'll find some good threads with lots of info.

An excellent overview of the new features. This has saved me a couple of hours working out what these features do and how to use them - thanks very much.

Thanks Richard great tutorial as usual, one feature that I think should be included but is not is a way to edit the fields that go into creating and editing a user. In fact I would call this a fix, since currently when you setup required parameters for a user you had better hope you do not need to edit that user because the required fields do not show up and so you are not able to save the user updates. To top it off there is no error message or any other way to know why Joomla will not save the user details.

Great introduction Richard, looks like its time to start playing with 2.5.
Still have about 30 sites left to migrate to 1.7 first though.
Thanks
Bruce

Hi Richard. regarding the changes to "help" non administrators to upload images/links to articles. The most common problem I encounter dealing mainly with school office staff is the ability to upload docs/pdfs and link them on an Article.Rather than have to use an FTP programme is it possible from the front or backend to upload a doc--navigate to it and hence create the hyperlink. Even when using FTP you need to remember ecactly what the doc file was called. Direct navigation from within joomla would solve all this?
Regards Dave

There are several document management extensions. Check out this section of the Joomla Extensions Directory (JED):

http://extensions.joomla.org/extensions/directory-a-documentation/downloads

Just find the component that has the features you need, is rated well and updated frequently. Also make sure it works with your version of Joomla.

I just wanted to say that I think this is a really great tutorial site. I believe that the individuals who made this site up really created a sense of value to the product, and I think Richard P is a great instructor. I am also a teacher, not of websites, but regardless I recognize the talent that he has for it. i am excited to be using Joomla and I can't wait to see what i will be able to do with all of the new features in Joomla 2.6. I wish all the users of Joomla the best of luck!

Hi, Just wanted to make sure of something. In regards to the overrides in language manager, I'm guessing that this option wouldn't work in a component that has it's own translation files. The overrides are only for Joomla content and not for other components right?

No. The overrides ARE for third party extensions too. Assuming the developer has followed correct procedures and placed their language file in the right spot, this feature will work. I did this extensively on a different site with EasyBlog where I wanted to change various references from 'blog' to 'news'.
