Fourteen Fabulous February Freebies

Fourteen Fabulous February Freebies

You thought Valentine's Day was over for 2014? Whether you're with the one you love or you're still waiting for Mr/Mrs Right, or just plain cynical about the whole thing, my gift to you are these fourteen fabulous February freebies for '14.

1 - The Basics for Joomla 3

Yes, number one on the list is unashamedly my own product. Enjoy my free introductory course for Joomla, now updated for version 3.

If you watch at YouTube, please give the playlist and lessons a thumbs up. If you watch at Udemy, please leave an honest rating and review.

2 - JA Image Hotspot

Here is the first of three fantastic free releases from JoomlArt.

Image maps are considered by many as "old school" and last year Robert wrote about image maps for Joomla. However now that websites are expected to be responsive, this makes these maps impractical. JoomlArt saves the day with JA Image Hotspot. This free module makes it easy to insert responsive images and maps with custom labels. Although it is a module, you can insert modules into Joomla articles.

4 - JA Google Chart

Got data? You can now present it beautifully and not worry about how it will look on multiple devices. JA Google Chart is a module that displays five chart types plus GEO charts.

Although it is called Google Chart, the module does allow direct input of data too.

8 - Vector Maps

If you have ever had to supply a map for a client, you know how hard and expensive it can be. Free Vector Maps has a great collection of maps of countries and states.

You do need to include attribution on the free versions, or pay a measly five bucks to use it without attribution.

10 - Gratisography

If you've been in this game for a while you'll remember the days when you had to pay hundreds of dollars for a single stock image. Then a new model arrived where you could buy images for a dollar. The big boys didn't like that and bought out many of the little guys. And guess what? Prices went up. Not as high as the bad old days, but now if you have a project that requires several great images, it can put a significant dent in the expenses column. However there are still some great resources available if you know where to look.

OK - there's not a huge amount here, but they are high resolution, free for all uses and require no attribution.

11 - Unsplash

Here's another one. There is much more here with more shots regularly added. However as there is no search, it can take a while to find something useful.

12 - Free-for-all Fonts

This is another one of those resources that will have you saying "I wish I knew about this before." Wouldn't it be great if you could get high quality fonts to use in your next project that cost nothing and actually look good? If you have searched for fonts you know there are a load of free resources. But finding truly great fonts can be hard.

The above font is called Overpass. You can find this and other quality fonts at Font Squirrel.
