Switch Gears and Turbo charge your Administrator

{jb_warning}UPDATE: Google Gears has been decommisioned and this post is therefore no longer relevant. It remains here for archival purposes.{/jb_warning}

Are you tired of starting a new article or editing an existing one and waiting for all those icons to appear in your HTML editor? Dramatically speed up this process, along with other Administrator tasks, by installing Google Gears and a free extension. This week's tip only has two steps:

1. Install Google Gears

2. The installation instructions on the developer's site are straight-forward. So rather than repeat them here, go to the site, download the extension and follow the instructions.

A couple of things to note ...

  • your site needs to be on a server running PHP version 5 - check with your host if necessary
  • when you initially click the "Update Gears" link, it might take a long time to update

This extension is now part of my standard Joomla installation and I encourage you to do the same.

Hi Richard,
Saw this item as a link on your most recent post, but it seems Google has switched "gears" so to speak and has dropped it althogether. Enjoy your posts.
Regards
