It is really easy to configure Joomla as a blog but there are a few extensions you should consider to get full blogging functionality. A blog is simply a collection of articles. I demonstrate how to do this in the free Joomla video tutorials. The basic steps are:
- Create a section
- Create a category
- Create your articles
- Create a menu link to your articles using either the Section Blog layout or Category Blog layout.
In the training videos, I show you how to change the default order so your most recent article appears at the top of the page.
To get the full benefits of a blog, you should install some extensions such as comments and you will find these in the Joomla Extensions Directory.
There are also two great commercial extensions worth considering. I mentioned a new one, SuperBlogger a few weeks ago. But if you're serious about blogging, you must take a look at My Blog and JomComment by Azrul. By combining these two extensions, you'll get a fully featured blog and fantastic comments functionality (comments can help your search engine rankings).
