What I'd like to see...
What I'd like to see is consistency in instructions given on how to install Joomla. I am new to Linux [11.10] and really would like to install and use it on this new box. However, in my travels on the Web I see a gross inconsistency in "how to do it". Maybe it's just me but I get frustrated with all the variables on "how to ...".
If there is a website, or someone with the knowledge to put simply and forthrightly how to install Joomla on a Linux machine I'd surely appreciate it.
BTW, I'm no nubie with computers [20 years with Windows and Mac] so LInux is taking me on an adventure. I'm sure, in time, I'll be as proficient with it as I am with the others. As for now it's quite a learning curve. I so appreciate open source as it gives people the ability to do something useful for all.

Well Alan, I reckon you can stop travelling and start putting down your roots here - you'll not find better Joomla tutorials anywhere.
If you want to get a site up and running locally, or just get to know Joomla better before you go live, I suggest you install XAMPP for Linux http://linux.softpedia.com/get/Internet/HTTP-WWW-/XAMPP-309.shtml.
If you want to install with your hosting company, the vast majority run Linux servers and many offer a 'one-click' Joomla install.
Wherever you want to install Joomla, the procedure is the same and covered in the videos - upload/copy the unpacked files to the correct folder, got to the site URL and the installation process will launch.
