Thanks again Laurie, I really just reduced the thumbnail size and those that reported the issue say its now disappeared, also on new galleries that cannot have the thumbnails cached yet.

You also have some nice photos on your site, I like the shed photos in particular.

Your site is more of a travel log so I see why your gallery format works best for you, but mine is really more about the photos themselves.

I plan to publish photos people can purchase as fine art prints and I will just use the article picture function straight from Joomla and present them in a similar way. If that takes off I will add a web shop.

Your feedback on my other question is very sound. I plan to develop a new version of my site, as I dont have much content yet its not worth upgrading. I was in a hurry when I slapped this site up and my web hotel provider only offered a one click install for 1.5, though there is nothing stopping me from from installing newer versions.

I think it's unlikely that a gallery from Joomla Works would need 777 permissions, so I suggest you change permissions to 755 and see if the gallery works at that. A product from Joomla Works would be reliable, I'd reckon.

sigpro does not have that option so inspired by your answer, I reduced the size of my thumbnail. Even though I only present one, it could be that it still tries to generate them all at that size before it presents the photos in the pop up.

My file size is only 65 kb average so that cannot be the issue.

I think it has worked because I just visited a customer and we tried it from her PC. It was quick - she does have an 8mb connection though but others who experienced problems also had good bandwidth.

I do want to change though because I am not happy with my cache settings. Which gallery would you recommend?

Yes, well, I gave up too, after giving it quite a while!

I wouldn't blame the software. Here are a few things you need to work on:

When a visitor first visits your site, the images have to be downloaded from your remote server. That means over the phone line or wireless modem. The images and html are then stored on their computer in the Termporary Internet Files folder so that next time they visit your page the files are just loaded from their local computer.

As they browse the web, their Temporary Internet Files folder gets filled up and the older files are deleted, which means next time they visit your site the files are once again downloaded.

So it's an important issue for prospective, first time visitors, that your site loads fast from the server, or you'll loose them, never to return.

It's a flash slideshow. Wouldn't touch one myself, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't have one.

You likely have the slideshow set to preload the images, which means all the images have to download, and display as thumbnails, before an image can be seen in the main window. Change this setting.

By the amount of time I waited with nothing happening, I'd say you have too many images in the folder, they are too big a file size, or both.

Cut it to a maximum of a dozen images, maximum file size about 200kb but an average of about 120 kb.

Just a note on reading your post again: The galleries are slow but the other pages open quick as a flash for me.

An aside: You should not have any folders set to 777. 644 for files 755 for folders. If it won't work as suggested, change your host or gallery or something.
