Setting the Site Name font?
Hi, since this is my first post I thought I should be polite and make an introduction. I'm Mike and began working with Joomla! and Richard's course at the same time about eight months ago.
Sadly, because of an illness I have not been able to work as much as I would have liked and therefore not achieve any of my goals.
A little better now and my question, which may be better asked in a different forum is, how can I change the FONT for the site name on the Beez2 Template? I cannot seem to find a way of changing it in the Template Manager or in Global Configuration.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Thank You! Mike
Since I am unfamiliar with how the forum works, IE I’m not sure how to look for an answer should someone provide one; could I also ask the favor of an e-mail for both the response and an explanation of the forum? ( This email address is being protected from spambots. TKS!

Hi Mike,
Welcome to the forums!
You should receive email notifications that someone has responded to your post. You'll see a little Subscribe check box at the bottom of the editing window. As long as that's checked, you'll be notified.
Here are a couple of tips...
Always search, at least quickly, through the forums before posting your question, not afterwards. There have been lots of questions answered here now...there is a chance that someone has addressed your issue. If not, post away.
Install Firebug, a Firefox plugin, and learn it. It's a HUGE time saver in terms of finding where to adjust CSS elements, like fonts and colors.
So now a question to you. You say you want to change the "site name" on your template. Are you referring to the logo? Maybe a quick screen shot would be good.Build A Joomla Website writer and moderator, lover of CSS. Let's GO Hockey!!!!

Okay, here it goes, I hope? Not sure if you will get the screenshot as I'm sort of new at this and was not sure how to set up the format. I tried two.
Prior to posting I had rooted around both here and at Joomla! looking for an answer, just hard an answer when you don't really know how to ask the question. As soon as I saw what you said about Style Sheets it jumped at me though; I think you may have hit something there.
If you are not able to view it my basic problem, along with a big lack of experience, is I removed the Logo on the Beez2 template, then replaced it with the group name. The problem is the FONT is set at about 24 to 28. The group is Franklin County Department Of Emergency Management and the long name makes it look out of balance. I need to get it down to around 10 to 12. I know I've taken a lot of your time and really want to thank you. I just got in and plan to start researching the style sheets right away, though any other suggestions are more then welcome. Thank you very much! Mike. -
G'day Mike!
At the end of the day, Mate, if you're to be a webmaster, you need to follow the advice that Robert gave. Using Firebug and altering css files is a constant task, so I'd encourage you to get into it as you've suggested.
But for now, if you wish, give us a look at the site. I'll tell you what file to edit and just what to change. If you really come to an impasse I can edit the file for you and post here.
However, you may wish to consider creating a logo in two lines:
Franklin County
Department Of Emergency Management
Then use the whole name as the title in the home page leading article.
A bit of basic graphic art is another skill you'll need unless you wish to pay someone for these little tasks.
Looking ahead a bit, you'll likely change templates several times as your site develops, so don't get too hung up on this small matter at this stage. There are thousands of great, free templates out there.

Hi Laurie and Robert,
Reading the advice that you had given to Mike, about Firefox! This is another browser, if I remember correctly, is it?
I use Google Chrome on my machine, and I have Internet Explorer in the background, available, I don't know why.
The question I have is should I have all browsers on my machine to test my site with, or is Joomla naturally accepted by them all, or is it the content that might cause problems viewing?
Thank you, gentlemen.

Hi JP,
Firefox is a browser, yes. It's from Mozilla. It was the standard for web developers for a long time. Firebug is an amazing tool and still works better than the tools in IE and Chrome IMO.
However, you still can do a pretty decent amount of testing and fiddling with the tools in IE and Chrome, especially Chrome I would say. There's even a port for Firebug in Chrome now. Just Google "Firebug for Chrome".
Yes, definitely test your sites in all browsers. You can use a tool like browsershots.org, but it's always nice to see it on your system. I have FF, IE, Chrome, and Safari installed on my PC. Joomla isn't really the problem with layout, it's how each browser renders your HTML and CSS. IE will most likely give you the most problems.
Just as a note, it seems that Chrome has recently overtaken IE in user base...especially on the weekends. Overall, I think IE is down to about 25% now.
Always test on your mobile device too!
If we have further questions going forward, let's start a new thread so we don't hijack Mike's introduction.
