I think I have a messed up Login process

0
when i try and login or logout using the login module (menu bar) I get this message

SSL connection error Unable to make a secure connection to the server. This may be a problem with the server, or it may be requiring a client authentication certificate that you don't have. Error 107 (net::ERR_SSL_PROTOCOL_ERROR): SSL protocol error.

however I can login using the same LI and PW in the login that sits within Kunena... I can logout successfully as well through Kunena

my settings are
Site > Global Configuration > Server > Server settings > Force SSL > None
Extensions > Module Manager > [LoginModule] > Basic Options > Encrypt Login Form > No

right now I am working off MAMP (localhost) and I think everything else is functioning the way I want but this one is obviously a concern as I would like others to be able to log into my site

I have checked both the kunena user manager and site user manager and all users are present and identical in setup

when I login using the kunena login it then shows me as logged in in the menu login as well which is a module (Login Form) sitting in my main menu

I checked in with Kunena and they asked which Login module I was using so I said I presumed it was the Cloud Login Form (same look and feel as on the yootheme Cloud demo page in the menu bar (Login Module Position))

now... if I go to my menu manager and publish another Login menu item that is available it appears on my menu (as well as the login form)... and this new one works... and my name also appears on the login form as being logged in... I can then log out from the login page that comes up but not from the login form...

the new login option (Menu Item Type: Login Form) is only available from the menu manage though and not from the Module Manager... when I log in it takes me to a separate page as opposed to the nice dropdown login that appears on my Login Form that doesn't work...

I think this is where I don't understand exactly what it going on... the logins that work are either the one from MenuManager or the Kunena one... the one that doesn't allow login or logout but does show present status is the Module->Login Form which is really the better looking one and the one I want to be able to use...

why does the menu manager one work and the module manager one not work?

Reading around the web suggests that it is spyware/malware causing this.

Google "Error 107 (net::ERR_SSL_PROTOCOL_ERROR): SSL protocol error."

this is nuts... I just went in and recreated a new module -> Login Form and published it after unpublishing my Menu Item -> Login (the one that worked)... I put the settings on my new Login Form exactly as I had my previous login module (which i have placed in the menu position)...

I can log in and log out of the site now...

was it as simple as recreating the same module from scratch again?

    Is this common in Joomla?

Yep, sometimes it is that easy...or difficult depending on how detailed the component is.

This isn't "common" in Joomla development, and it usually is the result of setting something wrong and forgetting what's been incorrectly set. At least that's usually why I have to redo them.

Glad you got it fixed, but don't ignore what Feebz points out. It might not be a hacking problem, but check your setup. Check the configuration.php file and make sure you're not forcing SSL.

Check your URL too to see that it's not loading as https://

Starting over has saved me lots of time once I've gotten over the fear of starting over!

I saw the Feebz articles too... lots of time spent going through them when this first popped up... also URL is not coming up as shttp:// and config is not set to force SSL... the only other thing i can think of was that I installed another extension (kunena Login) that gave current info and a few other neat looking things... and then found out that it also had another login/logout button that I didn't want so I unloaded that extension... could be that in the meantime it blew up my working Login module
