Directing Visitors to your Most Important Content

Directing Visitors to your Most Important Content

Don’t you hate it when you’re in the middle of something important on your computer and it suddenly stops working? That’s the dilemma I faced a few weeks ago when I had to put this site into maintenance mode while I made some changes to the template. I knew some people would be in the middle of watching some tutorials and I wanted to minimize the frustration they would feel when they found the site had switched off. Discover how I overcame this and how you can use the same approach to grow your website.

How to preview Joomla articles

How to preview Joomla articlesWhen writing web content, you often want to preview how an article will appear before it's published. This provides an opportunity to check that everything looks sensible, especially the positioning of images. However Joomla does not provide a preview feature and although there is a workaround, it's a bit clumsy. In this post I demonstrate how to preview Joomla articles using a free extension.

Language overrides from Administrator

Language file overrideVarious functions in Joomla require certain text to be displayed. These values are stored in various text files and previously you could only change the text by finding and downloading the correct file, changing the text and then uploading the file again. And then repeating the process if you got it wrong. Fortunately there is a much easier solution now and this post explains how to use the language override feature.

Creating spaces around images

Text aligned hard up against an imageDo you like to wrap your images around your text? The standard editor supplied with Joomla provides an alignment feature to do this, but this results in the image crashing in to the surrounding text. This tutorial demonstrates how to solve this through the use of a free extension that every Joomla site should use.
